Current Side Project
Data Acquisition for Remote Control Car using RF and LoRa
May 2024 - Present
- Goal of the project is to show that data can be transferred from a transmitter to a receiver using RF and LoRa.
- Built the schematics for the transmitter and receiver on KiCAD.
- Currently making the firmware in C++ to be programmed onto an Arduino for the Transmitter and ESP 32 for the Receiver. Software will be tested on breadboard designs based on the schematics.
- Data that will be transmitted to the receiver will include: GPS Coordinates, Speed, Rotation, Altitude, and Temperature. Transmitter data will be saved onto an SD Card as well.
- Will create the Printed Circuit Boards once the Firmware is complete.
- After the delivery of the PCBs the project will be tested outdoors with the transmitter placed on an RC Car, and the receiver will be held by myself to compare how well RF or LoRa communication can work at long distances.

Current Shifting PCB Schematic
PCB was made based on the previous schematic and footprints were edited to allow for wires to be soldered on the PCB as opposed to hardwiring.
A copper board was used to have the CNC Mill transform it into a PCB based on the Design.
Parts were soldered and then powered by the solenoids used for pneumatic shifting.
Using KiCAD, ESP 32 MCU was used to connect to the 2 IR Sensors, Buzzer, and a potentiometer-controlled LCD Display in the design.
The Buck Converter allowed the ESP 32 to be powered by a 9V Battery (ESP 32 can only take up to 5V).
Flags activate the timer that times how long it takes for the car to reach from one IR Sensor to the other.
Results are displayed on the LCD on whether the car is going over 50 MPH (based on the conversions) or going at normal speed ≤ 50 MPH.
Parts are soldered onto the board based on the PCB Design.
